Garden Room Compass is an independent guide to garden rooms, annexes and garden offices in the UK. We started it because most of the information buyers need — realistic pricing, planning rules, and how to compare installers — was scattered across sales pages, forums and installer marketing, and rarely written from the buyer’s side.
How we make money
This site is being built as a lead-generation business: over time, we plan to connect readers with vetted garden room installers and be paid for genuine, qualified introductions. As of today, that mechanism isn’t live yet — there is no installer directory or paid placement on this site, and nothing you read here has been shaped by a commercial relationship with any company. If and when we do introduce installer partnerships, we’ll disclose it clearly on the pages where it applies.
Our editorial approach
Every guide is built around three things: realistic UK pricing (reviewed as costs move, not left to go stale), the planning and building-regulations rules that actually apply to garden rooms, and plain-English explanations rather than sales copy. Where a topic touches something regulated — like consumer credit — we say so explicitly and stay informational rather than pushing you toward a specific product; our finance options guide is a good example of that.
Where we are today
The guide library (23 pages and growing) is the foundation. Next up is a proper installer directory with real, verifiable companies, and expanding regional coverage — both gated on having genuine data behind them rather than being templated out for the sake of page count.
